The second week of lectures started today, I had Genetics and then Ornithology and after that three hours at work. When I got home I did my reading for my Recreation Behaviour class tomorrow. That night Shannen, Bridget, Joe, myself and our friend from last semester Sofia and her boyfriend went to the Badlander Bar for a table quiz. The special theme of the night was Scotland, so there was a picture round of famous Scots and a music round too. We didn't do too bad for our first night and came fifth overall :P
Tuesday 3rd February-
My Rangeland Ecology class was cancelled today because the lecturer was out of town so that meant no classes until 2 o'clock! I still got up at 9am to finish reading my Rec paper and start my assignment on why there aren't many trees on Rangelands. I just had an hour and a half of college before I was home again. I finished off my assignment and headed to the Wildlife Society meeting with Shannen, Joe and Alissa. They taught us how to swing dance for the evening. I thought it might be similar to Irish dancing... I was wrong. It was hard to begin with but eventually I got into the swing of it! :P Ah see what I did there ;) So punny...
Wednesday 4th February-
Today essentially consisted of two classes and two work shifts, so I was on campus from 8am - 9pm. I'm beginning to see a theme to Wednesday's write up! :P
Thursday 5th February-
After 8am bird lab I had my classes on Rangelands and Rec Behaviour. I had to have read a very interesting paper on why people choose to recreate where they do and the evolutionary significance behind that. I'm glad I'm taking this class which is a little outside my major but still very relevant. That evening Desiree and Kate visited and we decided which hostels to stay in for Spring Break. We also booked a visit to Alcatraz. Pretty much everything is booked for San Francisco and Las Vegas now! Desiree had to leave but Kate, Shannen and I practiced our swing dancing for the Forester's Ball tomorrow night! It pretty funny but we got the hang of it... kinda
Friday 6th February-
After my morning classes I headed home for lunch before my work shift. I was peppering chicken fillets and grilling them in batches. I don't think I've ever seen so many chicken breasts in my life! After work I hurried home and got ready as fast as I could before the Forester's Ball. It's a pretty casual event so you dress country or like a lumberjack, meaning lots of denim and flannel shirts. I went to Kate's apartment along with a lot of the other Internationals for a while before the Ball. The Ball was being held in the gym and students had been building it all week. The inside of the gym was amazing! It was like a small logging town had been built indoors, with log cabins all around the main dance floor. There was a jail, a photo booth, a barbers, a shop, a saloon and a chapel! There was even a giant slide! It was so cool. You got free fizzy/soft drinks at the saloon all night all it cost you was a kiss to the bartender :P You could get free chilli too for dancing around a pole. The band was really good and even though I didn't know most of the country songs I still danced away. Our friend had Shannen and I arrested and put in the jail for three songs. Everyone was having mock weddings so myself and Shannen got hitched for 24 hours before you ditch em. At 10pm the can can girls came out and did some very cool dancing in corsets and tutus. They were joined by some guys who promptly had the pants pulled off them :P We met up with two of the new international students Catriona from Ireland and Aoife from Liverpool, who are great craic. We were swing dancing all night and even learned a bit of line dancing. Also we made full use of the slide and indoor jenga! It definitely rivals the Balls we're used to at home! When we got home after 12, Shannen, Kate, Bridget and I decided we'd go to Denny's for some late night snackage.

Saturday 7th February-
We'd decided to go to the Rattlesnake Wilderness for some hiking today after we felt guilty about being the only ones in our Recreation class that had never been. Unfortunately it was a day for ducks in that it was pouring rain. Instead we stayed inside did some homework. That evening Shannen and I finished Game of Thrones season 3, aka The Red Wedding! Safe to say Shannen was not impressed!
Sunday 8th February-
As the weather was better today, Shannen, Kate and I headed out to the Rattlesnake. Unfortunately we didn't even think that there would be ice on the trail. We couldn't get very far and so just wandered around by the river for a while. I tried to cross the car park to the trail map to see if there might be a less icy one and of course slipped and fell on my arse! I was fine though. After that we decided to come back another day later on in the spring. It does look like a beautiful area. We decided to try out Ihop instead seeing as none of us had ever been. I got unlimited pancakes and enjoyed all the different flavoured syrups. That night I had my usual Sunday vacuuming shift.
Thanks again for reading, hopefully I'll be able to keep up with the weekly posts now- Fiona :)
